IFE Presentations

Protein Electrophoresis and IFE - An Interpretive GuideProtein Electrophoresis and IFE - An Interpretive Guide (21 MB)
This PowerPoint series and script of 108 slides covers the basics of protein structure and disease states associated with various protein abnormalities. It outlines suggested protocols for evaluating monoclonals, including when to run, how to run and what to look for in serum and urine patterns. The series encompasses interpretation of serum and urine IFE patterns - from the simple to the complex. (The script can be printed using the Acrobat Reader provided. PowerPoint Viewer is also included. To request a CD, email us at Literature@Helena.com or call our Literature Services Department at 1-800-231-5663.)

ImmunoFixation for Identification of Monoclonal GammopathiesImmunoFixation for Identification of Monoclonal Gammopathies (90 MB)
Series No. R5SS. The monograph and corresponding slide presentation, “Immunofixation for the Identification of Monoclonal Gammopathies,” by Lawrence M. Killingsworth, MD and Barbara Warren, is a classic educational reference for laboratorians. This series presents 18 case studies, including free light chain and heavy chain diseases. The monograph and slide presentation provide color images of IFE and IEP plates, along with illustrations for each case study. This monograph (Form R5) and CD are available free as an educational service of Helena Laboratories. To request a CD, email us at Literature@Helena.com or call our Literature Services Department at 1-800-231-5663.)

Cholesterol Presentation

Clinical Value of Routine Determination of Lp(a): Clinical and Methodological ConsiderationsClinical Value of Routine Determination of Lp(a): Clinical and Methodological Considerations (4 MB)
Helena Laboratories is pleased offer this educational monograph edited from the expert panel discussion, “Clinical Value of Routine Determination of Lp(a): Clinical and Methodological Considerations”. This workshop was held July 27, 2004 at the AACC • ASCLS • NACB Annual Meeting. Faculty included Dr. Robert Galen, Dr. Sanda Clejan, Dr. Herbert Naito, and Dr. Joseph McConnell. Comments from Dr. Jane Emerson are also included in this monograph. The purpose of this workshop was to discuss emerging cardiac risk factors including the role of Lp(a) in the routine evaluation of patients for CAD risk, the problems associated with different analytical methods for the determination of Lp(a), and the relative significance of Lp(a) and CRP in assessing atherosclerotic burden and vulnerable plaque.
Of note was the presentation of data from a 4-year study of angiography patients comparing Lp(a) methods and CRP. Recommendations for extended risk marker panels were also provided.

Hemostasis Presentations

Evaluation of Platelet FunctionEvaluation of Platelet Function (9 MB)
Series No. 5391. This slide series graphically illustrates the role of platelets in hemostasis, outlines the effects of various platelet disorders, and provides an overview of laboratory tests for platelet function. The platelet slide series is an excellent teaching tool. (45 slides). A printed educational monograph (Form A2) is also available for use with this presentation upon request. Introducing Plateletworks - Bedside Platelet Aggregation Test

Introducing Plateletworks - Bedside Platelet Aggregation Test
This slide series presents an overview of platelet function in hemostasis and details the importance of  platelet testing in evaluating the delicate balance between bleeding and clotting. That balance is of particular concern in cardiac procedures such as cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) surgery and cardiac catheterization. Advances in platelet testing such as Plateletworks® and the Ichor® hematology counter, allow whole blood platelet aggregation testing to be performed in as little as 5 minutes at the point of care. To request a CD, email us at Literature@Helena.com or call our Literature Services Department at 1-800-231-5663.)
